The walk
After Lac Combal and the Miage glacier moraine, the path climbs to Arp Vieille and the Mont Favre balcony: one of the finest views of the tour over the Italian face of Mont Blanc. It then reaches Col Chécrouit and Maison Vieille.
What remains is a steep, dusty descent of more than 700 m to Dolonne and Courmayeur. A lively town with every service: the ideal rest stop on an 11 or 12-day tour.
Passes on the way

Good to know
- In bad weather, the floor of the Val Veny (road and seasonal bus) is an easy fallback.
- The Dolonne or Chécrouit gondolas can spare your knees (season and timetable to check).
