The walk

A steady forest climb leads to Rifugio Bertone, a viewpoint over Courmayeur and the massif. The path then runs almost level along the sunny side of the Val Ferret, facing the Grandes Jorasses and the Triolet glacier.

The fittest take the Mont de la Saxe and Tête Bernarda ridge: a 360° view, but more ascent and to avoid in storms. Rifugio Bonatti, one of the most sought-after huts on the tour, must be booked very early.
